The investigating judge of Pavia Daniela Garlaschelli has accepted the request of the prosecutors for a major evidentiary incident in the new investigations on Andrea Sempio for the murder of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco in 2007.
The investigation is not limited to comparing the 37-year-old's DNA with the results of the material found on Chiara's nails and fingers , but includes further wide-ranging genetic analyses on a long list of findings and samples found, some of which have never been analysed: among these, a fragment of the bathroom mat, samples, swabs and objects such as tea, yoghurt, cereal, biscuit packets , bags and the "adhesive backings" of all the fingerprints.
The comparison of the genetic profiles that will be found, as established by the judge also at the request of Sempio's defense, will also be extended to other people who frequented the Garlasco villa, who can be gradually identified. A sort of hunt for the various male DNA, in relation to the different parts of the crime scene.
The hearing for the assignment of the task has been set for April 9. On that date, Sempio's defense and the civil parties, namely Chiara's parents and brother, will also appear before the judge, and they will be able to nominate their consultants. The judge will also give a deadline, that is, he will indicate the duration of the investigations.
The investigating judge has chosen forensic geneticist Emiliano Giardina, a consultant who also worked on the Yara case for the Bergamo Prosecutor's Office . Sempio's defense, with lawyers Massimo Lovati and Angela Taccia, will be able to nominate former RIS commander Luciano Garofano as a consultant, while the civil parties will be able to indicate historic consultant Marzio Capra.
