The investigating judge of the Bologna court Domenico Truppa has ordered precautionary custody in prison for Giampiero Gualandi, a 62-year-old former commander of the local police of Anzola Emilia, accused of the murder of Sofia Stefani, 33 years old, a former traffic policewoman .

At the end of the interrogation, therefore, the judge accepted the prosecutor's request, recognizing the seriousness of the evidence against the man. Measure against which Gualandi's defense will appeal, turning to the Review Court.

The crime that shocked Anzola, a small town in the province of Bologna, still has some dark sides. Aggravated voluntary manslaughter, as the prosecutor claims? Or a shot fired accidentally, as Gualandi's defense claims?

What is certain is that there was a clandestine romantic relationship between the two (he was married, she was engaged). A relationship full of back and forth, which she wanted to continue but he wanted to end. Hypothesis which is also confirmed in some text messages that the two had exchanged and which were included in the documents.

The contact that led to yesterday's meeting would have been from Stefani, who called her former colleague and reached him at his place of work. What happened in Gualandi's office is not documented by images because there are no security cameras . The other people present in the building, the Yellow House, headquarters of the local police near the Municipality, would not have heard shouts or animated tones, but only the gunshot.

There is another element that will need to be explored further. About half an hour before the woman's arrival, Gualandi went to get the service pistol, kept in a locker in another room of the station. An unusual gesture , witnesses would have said, since there was no reason to keep the service weapon with him during the encounter which he then fired and killed. According to some sources, the gun was loaded with more than one bullet.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, it is a femicide, an aggravated voluntary homicide .

But Gualandi speaks of a blow fired accidentally during a fight, a version reiterated today before the investigating judge in the interrogation that lasted an hour and a half: « I wanted to end the relationship, she wasn't into it and came to my office. I was cleaning my service pistol, there was a struggle and the shot went off. It all happened in three minutes, it was an accident not a femicide."
