According to reports, the choice fell on the deputy director of RaiNews, Sigfrido Ranucci, who had to decide by yesterday among the positions proposed by Rai after his removal from the hosting of Report, including Tg3 and the assignment to a foreign correspondent office, Cairo in particular.

Ranucci had filed an urgent appeal seeking reinstatement as host of Report, but the Rome Labor Court rejected his request, arguing that RAI had decided to remove him to resolve internal tensions arising from the media outcry surrounding the investigation into the attack. The appeal will nevertheless continue on its merits.

The former host of Report has also appealed the ten-day suspension imposed on him following an investigation into his conduct, which the RAI Ethics Committee deemed to be in violation of company rules.

Ranucci, who in February 2022 was assigned to the In-Depth Department as Deputy Director "ad personam," will return to the editorial staff where he worked from 1999 to 2006, being appointed special correspondent in 2001.
