Tomaso Bracco, the fifty-year-old who had been hospitalized in intensive care at the Niguarda hospital since Friday, died after being involved in the fire, which broke out in the morning, in his apartment in via della Spiga in Milan.

A former gallery owner, Bracco was the granddaughter of Diana Bracco, the president and CEO of the Bracco pharmaceutical group. He was a member of the steering committee of the Bracco Foundation.

The 50-year-old was found in cardiac arrest with severe burns and intoxication in his bedroom. His condition appeared very serious right from the start.

"I was up in the attic doing the cleaning when I heard a door slam violently and I went down. I immediately saw a lot of smoke coming from the area of the two bedrooms and we went out", the maid's story.

The woman, the cook and the house dog managed to escape from the apartment, while Bracco was trapped in the room.
