Former Speaker of the Chamber Irene Pivetti has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for tax evasion and self-laundering . This was decided by the fourth criminal section of the Court of Milan in the trial against three other defendants for a series of commercial transactions in 2016 worth approximately 10 million euros , in particular the sale of three Ferrari Granturismos which, according to the prosecution, would have been used to launder proceeds from tax evasion .

The judges in Milan also ordered the confiscation of over 3.4 million euros from the former member of the Northern League, an amount that had already been seized during the investigation. However, the sentence for the confiscation of that sum will have to become final, while Pivetti is expected to appeal.

Among other things, the former Speaker of the House was sentenced to pay a fine of 6 thousand euros and was also subject to the accessory penalties of the procedure, such as a ban from holding public office for 5 years and from carrying on business for one year.
