Two weeks after its publication in the Official Journal, the new law on the crime of femicide has come into force today . "From today, violence against women will be recognized in its specificity. With the entry into force of the new crime of femicide , as well as the additional protections this law introduces, Italy confirms its role as a model for other nations, as the UN rapporteur on violence against women has also stated." This is what Eugenia Roccella, Minister for Family, Birth Rates and Equal Opportunities, said.

"This obviously doesn't mean," he adds, "that killing a woman is more serious than killing a man. It does mean greater specialization among professionals, more targeted prevention and repression tools, and above all, a significant push for profound cultural change."
