Turned out in the investigation into the murder of Silvano Nestola, the ex-marshal of the carabinieri barbarously shot dead on the evening of May 3 in front of his sister's house on the outskirts of Copertino, where he went to have dinner with his 11-year-old son who was, unfortunately, an eyewitness to the crime.

The carabinieri carried out a precautionary custody order against Michele Aportone, 70 years old from San Donaci, in the Brindisi area. He is the father of the woman with whom the retired marshal had had a romantic relationship, which was then broken up. The man was being investigated together with his 62-year-old wife Rossella Manieri for premeditated murder.

According to the indictment, Aportone and his wife had long been working to save their daughter's marriage to her husband in every way. So - according to the investigations - the engagement between the daughter and the 46-year-old Nestola represented for Aportone an obstacle to their project. Hence the plan developed by the 70-year-old to kill the former soldier.

Aportone is accused of voluntary homicide aggravated by premeditation and futile motives. For this reason, in fact, the wife of the man who - again according to the accusation - was aware of her husband's plan is also investigated on the loose.
