It was not an accident, but a murder .

Disturbing developments in the fire in which two elderly spouses died in Bagno a Ripoli (Florence) last December 5th .

The flames that invaded the house were not caused by an electrical short circuit, as initially hypothesized by the firefighters, but were set deliberately to sidetrack the investigations after the death of the two elderly people, the first killed by a beating, the second strangled .

A 45-year-old man originally from Calabria has been arrested on charges of voluntary homicide .

Umberto Della Nave, 84 years old, a well-known shopkeeper in the area, and his wife Dina Del Lungo, 83 years old, an invalid, lost their lives in the fire. In January 2022, the couple had also lost their son Leonardo, 46, who suffered a heart attack while he was on his motorbike.

According to the first rumors that leak out, the couple ended up in a ring of usury and this could be the cause of the murder.
