Drugged and drunk, he attacked a nurse while he was waiting for an appointment in the emergency room and then attacked a security guard who intervened to defend the health worker.

It happened last night at the Betania Evangelical Hospital in Naples, one of the two health facilities in the Ponticelli neighborhood, where attacks on staff are now the order of the day , so much so that the hospital's director general Vincenzo Bottino blurted out: "We are in a state of war, enough is enough."

According to what the health facility reports in a note, last night a man, who later tested positive for alcohol and drugs, while waiting to be seen, violently attacked a nurse in the emergency area, causing him trauma and serious injuries. Subsequently, the same fate befell a security guard who rushed to the nurse's defense. Both injured will get away with a twenty-day prognosis, the aggressor has been reported .

Since the beginning of 2024, there have been over 15 attacks on staff at Betania hospital.

"The cup is full - says DG Bottino -, we live in a state of war, the lives of our operators and the safety of our patients are in danger . We cannot allow a place of care to become a scene of violence, for this reason the hospital with its own investments will equip itself with armored doors for access to the emergency room, but without an adequate security policy the attacks and devastation will not end ".

Many hospital workers, worried about their safety, have asked to be transferred to less exposed departments : "As decided by the Ministry of the Interior for other border facilities, we ask that our emergency room also be immediately equipped with a police squad. We cannot continue like this", concludes Bottino.
