Barbara Spinelli, a former left-wing MEP and journalist, Altiero's daughter, died today, according to European parliamentary sources in Strasbourg.
Daughter of Altiero Spienelli and Ursula Hirschmann and partner of Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, Barbara Spinelli, along with the Micromega group, was among the key proponents of Silvio Berlusconi's disqualification from office in 2013. In the 2014 European elections, she co-founded the single left-wing list, The Other Europe with Tsipras. She was elected with over 36,700 votes in the Central constituency and, despite what she announced when she ran, decided not to give up her seat and instead seek a seat in the European Parliament.
In May 2015, however, he decided to leave the list, remaining as an independent member of the GUE group, which brought together the European left.
