Dramatic accident on the highway: three dead, including a 4-year-old girl, and two injured

Dramatic road accident on the Ionian-Tyrrhenian state road in the municipality of Melicucco, in the province of Reggio Calabria.

An Alfa Romeo Giulietta and a BMW were involved in a head-on collision, three people were killed and two were injured. Among the victims is a four-year-old girl who died as soon as she arrived at the Polistena hospital.

On board the BMW were twin girls barely 4 years old - one dead and the other seriously injured -, a woman who died, the driver and another woman sitting next to her, both of whom were injured. The third victim is the driver of the Alfa, who was traveling alone.

Heartbreaking scenes in the hospital when some relatives of the victims arrived. Maya Teramo hadn't turned 4 yet; the other victims are 37-year-old Antonella Campennì and 39-year-old Domenico Politi.

The parents of the twins were both injured: the father, Domenico Teramo, 39, and the mother, Valentina Crudo, 30, were both operated on. The family, originally from San Calogero (Vibo Valentia) but residing in the Milanese area, together with the deceased woman, were part of a group that in the previous hours had gone to visit the Bivongi waterfalls and were returning to the village.

A few ambulances and an air ambulance attended the scene, with the police and agents of the Polstrada present. All the wounded were taken to the Polistena hospital, little Maya's twin sister was transferred to a more equipped facility in Messina shortly after.
