A thousand questions still unanswered and many accusations to the doctors of the Foggia hospital. This is the outburst of Tatiana Pugliese, sister of the 23-year-old girl from Cerignola who died on September 4th while undergoing surgery following a road accident that occurred in June.
Tatiana does not deny the aggression unleashed by the family after the news of the death, which for hours kept doctors and health personnel of the thoracic surgery department under siege, who had to barricade themselves in some rooms. But she counterattacks, saying she is certain that everything happened due to errors and poor medical management of the case. In a long post, Tatiana, alongside the pain for the loss, explains the anger of the family and speaks of "falsehoods" that have been said and written, saying she is convinced that her sister died due to the doctors' responsibility.
"There are a thousand questions," he writes, "why didn't they send a helicopter rescue? Why did they do it knowing they weren't capable, why, why? They were the ones who made mistakes, too many absurd things... This is not a movie, here we are talking about a 22-year-old girl, and a family that will have to serve a life sentence because of you..."
"Since you are spreading so many false news," he adds, "it seems like we are crazy, like beasts, in this situation we find ourselves here also giving explanations, But we are doing it only because everyone must know the truth."
The young woman, whose name was Natascha, had been hospitalized since June 19 after being involved in a car accident while she was on a scooter. According to her sister, the girl was transferred by helicopter to Foggia. First to intensive care, she underwent surgery for three displaced vertebrae, a tracheotomy helped her breathe with machines and she remained in a coma for 16 days. Then she woke up, was transferred to Neurosurgery and began rehabilitation on July 16.
According to Tatiana, the young woman had now recovered but had to undergo a second operation on her trachea to remedy some consequences of the tracheotomy. The operation had to be performed in Rome "because the hospital in Foggia, as communicated, is not competent in the sector", she writes. On September 4 - this is still the reconstruction - Natascha sent a message to her family that she had to undergo a visit. From that moment - according to her sister's story - the situation worsened until her death. "I died with her too, I will never accept all this and I will never forgive it", she writes again. Now we will have to wait for the autopsy to understand what the cause of death was while the general management of the Policlinico Riuniti in Foggia has started an internal investigation. The Foggia prosecutor's office has opened two investigations: one on the young woman's death, the other on the attack on health workers.
