Raul Esteban Calderon, accused of the murder of Fabrizio Piscitelli , known as Diabolik , was acquitted on appeal. The judges of the Rome Court of Assizes of Appeal overturned his first-instance life sentence.

The judges dropped the charges against the defendant with the formula "for not having committed the crime".

Piscitelli was killed by a gunshot to the head on August 7, 2019, in the Acquedotti park. The Attorney General's Office had requested that Calderon's life sentence be upheld, but also that the aggravating circumstance of mafia methods be recognized.
