The Rome Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the conviction of three Carabinieri , accused of having made false statements during the trial on the misdirection of the investigations into the Cucchi case . In particular, the prosecutor Giovanni Musarò has requested a sentence of 4 years and 2 months for Maurizio Bertolino, who was a marshal at the Tor Sapienza station at the time of the events, 3 years and 6 months for Marshal Giuseppe Perri and 4 years for Prospero Fortunato, who was at the time captain and commander of the accident and judicial police section at the Rome Mobile Radio unit. The latter has chosen to be judged with the abbreviated procedure. They are being charged, depending on their positions, with the crimes of misdirection (for what was stated during the investigations) and ideological falsity committed by a public official in public documents.
During the closing speech, before the sole judge of the Capital, the prosecutor recalled that in the Cucchi case we have witnessed "an obsessive activity of misdirection that went on for 9 years: from October 2009 until October 2018. This illicit activity - continued Musarò - then continued in an unheard of manner until 2021: I hope that this is the last episode of a saga that lasted 15 years".
At the opening of the hearing, the lawyers of two civil parties, both Penitentiary officers, announced the revocation of the constitutions: a decision that suggests an extrajudicial agreement on compensation.
