Extending the third dose to everyone is "a likely scenario". Word of the president of the Higher Institute of Health Silvio Brusaferro. Also according to Andrea Crisanti, “if we don't want to see what happened in Great Britain, everyone must do the third dose”.

The trend seems to be precisely this, even if for the moment it is more important to administer it to all the elderly and the frail: "If we will also do it for the young, it is something to be considered later in time", says the coordinator of the Cts Franco Locatelli.

While Gianni Rezza, director of Prevention of the Ministry of Health, raises the bar: "To keep the virus under control we must reach 90% of immunized", he declares about the increase in infections in recent days.

A difficult goal to achieve, given that convincing the hard core of people who have not yet been vaccinated will be anything but simple. According to the data updated to this afternoon, 44.4 million people have completed the vaccination cycle, 82.22% of the population over 12, while 86.06% have done at least one dose.

The goal of 90%, therefore, would not be far, were it not that the new vaccinated are fewer and fewer and the diehards resist: 7.6 million Italians over 12 have not even taken a dose. For example, the new vaccinates this Sunday were about 10 thousand, the previous Sunday they were almost 29 thousand, and the previous Sunday 26 thousand. The third doses, on the other hand, are continuing at a rapid pace, exceeding one million.

Meanwhile, today the EMA has given the green light for the administration of the third dose of the Moderna vaccine for people aged 18 and over. This was announced by the European Medicines Agency itself. At present in Europe the only vaccine approved for the third dose was Pfizer.

The available data, we read in a note from the EMA, indicated that a third dose of the Moderna vaccine, Spikevax, administered 6 or 8 months after the second leads to an increase in antibodies in adults in which the level of defenses is reduced. For the booster the dose of vaccine is equal to half of that given the first time.
