"The greatest challenge to the war is the welcome of every brother and sister."

This is the message that Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, archbishop of Cagliari and general secretary of the Italian Episcopal Conference, launched from Pompeii, during the homily delivered in the crowded churchyard of the sanctuary on the occasion of the "Supplication" addressed to the Madonna on the first Sunday of October.

«The news gives us a sad snapshot of this time - said Monsignor Baturi - how much violence even in family and emotional spheres, how many wars and conflicts... Where are we going? What society are we building? What life are we looking for?".

Humanity, said the general secretary of the CEI, is made up of "beggars of mercy, pilgrims of the Eternal" and needs to allow itself to be "expanded by love to welcome every brother and sister".

Hence the meaning of the prayer composed by Blessed Bartolo Longo and addressed twice a year - May and October - in the form of a Supplication: «The free movement - stated Baturi - of those who feel kept in the heart of Mary».
