Jacopo Compagnoni, 40-year-old mountain guide, brother of the ski champion Deborah, died after being hit by an avalanche in Valfurva, province of Sondrio.

According to what has been learned, Compagnoni was in the company of a friend and was descending from the north channel of Monte Sobretta, at about 2850 meters above sea level. A sudden detachment of snow - we are talking about a front of about a hundred meters - hit him.

Unharmed the friend, who raised the alarm. Rescuers then arrived on the spot by helicopter, but the attempts to rescue the 40-year-old were unfortunately in vain.
