Two members of the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI), wearing partisan scarves around their necks , were attacked in Rome while they were looking for a bar in Via delle Sette Chiese, a short distance from the square where the Liberation Day demonstration was taking place.
According to an initial reconstruction, a man riding a scooter, wearing a full-face helmet and a military-colored vest, suddenly stopped, pulled out a BB gun, and fired at the couple. The husband and wife were hit in the neck and cheek, respectively, and the wife in the shoulder. Both sustained wounds with significant blood loss. Neither is seriously injured, the ANPI later explained. They are undergoing treatment and "are fine." But, they add, "what happened is extremely serious."
Tensions also erupted in Milan during the April 25th march. " One person told us, 'You're just bad soap,' " Democratic Party representative Emanuele Fiano reported, speaking of the protests directed at the Jewish Brigade by some pro-Palestinian demonstrators . Boos and insults were heard in the section of the demonstration where Luciano Belli Paci was also present, under the protection of a large contingent of law enforcement.
"These are the times. I had already expressed my concerns to the prefect and the police commissioner," said Mayor Giuseppe Sala, leading the procession to Piazza Duomo. "There's not much to be surprised about; I honestly expected it. It's also an organizational issue, but I can't comment on it."
The mayor then emphasized the increasingly heated atmosphere: "Phrases like 'you deserve to be soap bars' were shouted. It's a shame, because April 25th is a very important moment. Perhaps we should stop calling it a celebration: it's an opportunity for reflection, commitment, and responsibility. But all of this is, in part, being lost."
