Alberto Stasi can be released from prison: he has been placed on probation by social services at the company where he has long worked . The Milan Surveillance Court made the decision this afternoon, granting the defense's request, which the Attorney General's Office had previously approved.
The news, previewed by Tg La7, was confirmed to ANSA by qualified sources.
Stasi was on semi-liberty. Chiara Poggi's boyfriend, sentenced to 16 years for the Garlasco crime, is now a free man after 10 years and 6 months in Bollate prison . The news comes after the Pavia prosecutor's office closed the new investigation into Sempio for the murder that occurred on August 13, 2007.
The granting of probation, it is specified, is not connected to the possible review of his trial , for which the defense will file a request. The Attorney General's Office that approved his release is, however, the same one evaluating the request for a review of the trial.
Stasi, who has always maintained his innocence, will not return to Garlasco but to a rented house near Milan . According to La7, he took only his clothes with him but left some belongings with the other inmates, including a refrigerator and a fan.
