He doused his 73-year-old father with flammable liquid and set him on fire, leaving him to die in the flames . Carabinieri from the Cinisello Balsamo (Milan) station responded to a house in the town in the early hours of the morning for an ongoing fire.

A 47-year-old Italian man, likely suffering from personality disorders , had hit his 73-year-old father with a blunt object and then doused him with flammable liquid and set him on fire, killing him.

His name is Raffaele Arena : he was arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of aggravated homicide and is now in the psychiatric ward of a hospital under military guard.

Arena had already committed manslaughter: in 2017, outside a bar, he struck an elderly man, who fell, hit his head, and died after 15 days in hospital . For that crime, he was sentenced to five years in a REMS (formerly a judicial psychiatric hospital) as he was deemed incompetent .

The 47-year-old was being treated at a local psychosocial center.
