He was playing tennis when he suddenly collapsed to the ground and went into cardiac arrest. Attempts to revive him and a rush to the hospital were made, but nothing could be done. Thus, a 15-year-old boy died in the late afternoon.

The tragedy

The incident occurred in San Giovanni Teatino, in the Sambuceto area, in the Pescara-Chieti metropolitan area. It all happened quickly, while the young man, a resident of Francavilla al Mare, also in the Chieti area, was playing at the Cittadella dello Sport complex. The 15-year-old, described as athletic, sporty, and in good health, suddenly felt ill. The scene immediately demonstrated the seriousness of the situation, and the alarm was raised by Nue112.

Resuscitation attempts

Meanwhile, those present began CPR, also using the facility's automatic defibrillator. Pescara's emergency medical service then arrived, providing a medical car and an ambulance. The paramedics continued their efforts while the young man was transported to the hospital in the Adriatic capital. However, despite extensive efforts, the boy never recovered and died in the emergency room.

The precedents

The tragedy brings to mind similar incidents in Abruzzo. In August 2019, a fifteen-year-old from Milan, on vacation with his family in Francavilla al Mare, died after collapsing while playing soccer at a private facility. A few months earlier, in May of the same year, a nineteen-year-old from San Salvo died after suffering a serious illness during a game with friends in San Salvo Marina. More recently, in Pordenone, another young man, also fifteen, died in similar circumstances last December while playing sports.
