It is the day of the summit between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin in Moscow .

"We look with interest at China's proposals to resolve the crisis in Ukraine ," the Russian president said at the beginning of their meeting in the Kremlin. The conflict has now reached its 390th day.

"We are open to negotiations", added Putin, stating that a diplomatic solution for Ukraine must take into account the "principle of the indivisible security of all countries".

During the meeting, Xi described the Russian head of state as a "dear friend": "Our countries must have close relations," he stressed.

With regard to Beijing's peace proposal , Washington has already made it known that if China launches an appeal for a ceasefire during Xi's visit to Moscow, Kiev should reject it , "which we will do too", because "it would fundamentally ratify what that the Russians have been able to conquer inside Ukraine and would give them time and space to prepare,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said.

Kirby also invited Xi to open a talk with Kiev as well: «If you go to Moscow and sit for three days at the same table as President Putin and listen to his point of view on a war that he started and that could end today, you should at the very least pick up the phone and also talk to President Zelensky to get his point of view.
