Very high tension on the border with Ukraine.

According to US intelligence sources, two Russian missiles landed on the territory of Poland, a NATO member country, killing two people .

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has convened an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Committee,” Morawiecki spokesman Piotr Müller announced on Twitter. Hungary has also convened its Defense Council.

"Our commitment to Article 5 of NATO is very clear: we will defend every inch of NATO territory ," said Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder, specifying however that investigations are underway into the news. NATO also confirmed that it is "examining" the reports while the White House says it is "at work to establish what happened and what the next steps to take are".

Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which could now be invoked by Poland, provides that an armed attack against one member country must be considered an attack against all the others.

However, Moscow rejects the accusations : the images shown by the Polish media have nothing to do with Russian armaments, says the Russian Defense Ministry quoted by Tass, denying having attacked that area and referring to a "deliberate provocation".

While the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky speaks of a "slap in the face to the G20" and of escalation and calls for an immediate NATO summit, a different version is also making its way among the Warsaw media: those wreckage could be the remains of a rocket shot down by the forces Ukrainians .

The Italian Air Force is also present in Poland with a task force of four Eurofighter fighters to defend NATO airspace , based in Malbork, where one hundred Italian soldiers are based. In the last 4 months, since the beginning of the mission which will end on December 31st, the "White Eagle" has intercepted and monitored 24 Russian aircraft, including Sukhoi fighters and Ilyushin transport aircraft.
