British Prime Minister Keir Starmer convenes the "British-French led coalition of the willing" committed to guaranteeing the security of Kiev after a possible peace with Moscow : a meeting with 25 leaders of various European countries, including Italy, as well as Australia and New Zealand. And Volodymyr Zelensky is also there.
Starmer accuses Vladimir Putin of not having been "serious about peace" so far and evokes new "pressure" to push him to stop "playing games with President Trump's plan" for a truce. He then announces an "operational meeting" at military leadership level for Thursday to discuss a future deployment of peacekeepers "on the ground" and "aircraft in the skies", to guarantee the security of Ukraine, after a peace agreement is reached. The meeting will take place in London, confirming the "leading role" claimed by the United Kingdom on this initiative: "The world needs action, not empty words or conditions", he said.
In the words of the British Prime Minister, this morning there emerged "a stronger collective determination" and "new commitments" to move through an "operational phase" against the backdrop of the desire to give "political and military" impetus to the project of the "coalition of the willing". An impetus that, in his opinion, must be translated both into a relaunch of support for Ukraine, so that it can defend itself immediately and consolidate its future security apparatus after peace; and, in parallel, into the imposition of new "sanctions" against Russia to "weaken the Kremlin's war stain" and force Vladimir Putin "to sit at the negotiating table" without further delays.
"National participation in a possible military force on the ground is not foreseen," reiterated Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, confirming however that Italy intends to continue working with European and Western partners and with the United States to define credible and effective security guarantees.
