European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visits Kiev.
She announced it herself on X, in a post that reads: "My eighth visit to Kiev comes as the heating season approaches and Russia continues to attack energy infrastructure."
Von der Leyen explained that her arrival in the Ukrainian capital is centered on "Europe's support" in view of the feared winter in the country.
The sight of the number one in Brussels comes the day after the European Parliament gave the green light to the use of Western weapons in Russia. A vote that split the Italian parties : Italian MEPs essentially voted against the resolution with divisions in the PD and Forza Italia. The delegations of the Lega and Fratelli d'Italia and, on the left, the Movimento 5 Stelle and Avs were unanimously against it.
"What the European Parliament is calling for leads to a world war with nuclear weapons," said Russian State Duma Speaker Volodin. He added: "In the event of Ukrainian attacks deep into Russia with Western weapons, Russia will respond harshly with more powerful weapons."
