An exceptional cold and snow storm is bringing the United States to its knees and has already claimed its first victims, causing at least nine deaths so far .

The news was reported by CNN, the deaths all occurred at the wheel, due to the icy roads and snow.

Cold weather and high winds continue to slow transportation across the United States, where Buffalo, New York State is currently the epicenter of the winter storm with snow and winds of up to 80 mph .

But 200 million Americans, 60% of the US, are involved in the bad weather warning in what is the coldest Christmas in the last 40 years. Temperatures have plummeted from north to south, nearly a million people are without electricity in 23 states and 6,000 flights have already been cancelled .

Christmas gift deliveries are also at risk: FedEx has warned that transport problems caused by bad weather could cause delays in deliveries expected before December 25th.
