Donald Trump said he would consider allowing Benjamin Netanyahu to resume military action in Gaza if Hamas refused to uphold its end of the agreement . Israeli forces could return "as soon as I say so. We'll know very quickly what happens with Hamas," the US president told CNN.
And Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz doubled down: "I have prepared a comprehensive plan to defeat Hamas in the Strip" should it become "necessary" to resume fighting.
Last night, the Red Cross handed over the bodies of two more hostages to the IDF. Nine bodies have been returned and 19 remain in Gaza , meaning that Hamas has failed to locate nearly two-thirds of the dead hostages. "The resistance has honored the agreement and handed over all the prisoners still alive and all the bodies it managed to reach. The remaining bodies require considerable effort and specialized equipment to search for and recover , and we are making great efforts," a Hamas statement read.
Meanwhile , Italy, if the UN requests it, is ready to participate with its military in a stabilization force in Gaza . And in Parliament, the opposition parties, starting with the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement, have announced their support for the operation .
The next few weeks are considered crucial. Abbas is expected in Rome on November 7th , and is expected to be received at Palazzo Chigi and the Quirinale, while the Palestinian Foreign Minister will participate in the Med Dialogues in Naples in the next few hours. "We have always kept the dialogue with Israel and the Palestinian National Authority alive," and "Italy's active role in peace has been recognized, starting with the United States," Tajani remarked, speaking to the Chamber of Deputies, in a nearly empty chamber with an "absent majority," as the opposition had denounced. For the Deputy Prime Minister, "facts are shortening the time" for recognizing the State of Palestine, but "as long as Hamas exists, it's difficult to achieve."
The Democratic Party is ready to support the mission, while criticizing a government that "talks about reconstruction but was invisible during the destruction." For M5S leader Giuseppe Conte, "Italy could now play a role in Gaza: we have professionals who are consistently recognized around the world, with a capacity for dialogue and the extraordinary ability to build a peace process with the local populations."
