There is increasing talk in recent hours of a truce in the Gaza Strip.

A senior Hamas official said the time frame could be very short, "within 24-48 hours", if Israel accepts the demands of the Palestinian Islamic movement. “If Israel accepts Hamas' demands, which include the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza and an increase in humanitarian aid, this may pave the way for an agreement (on a truce) within the next 24-48 hours.”

And yesterday Israel launched its conditions, with the aim of a truce before the start of Ramadan on March 10. But the Netanyahu government appears adamant on one point: the Palestinian faction must hand over the list of hostages still alive. While awaiting a ceasefire, international humanitarian assistance efforts have increased.

Today, in Cairo, talks resume to reach a ceasefire that will allow the release of other hostages.
