Iran has officially begun six days of public funeral ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei .
According to state television, thousands of people have flocked to Tehran from various Iranian cities and rural areas to pay their last respects to the late leader Ali Khamenei. The farewell ceremony will last until 8:00 p.m. local time on Sunday. Worshippers will pray for the leader tomorrow morning and begin the funeral ceremony the following day.
Worshippers gathered in the courtyard of Tehran's Mosalla Grand Mosque, where Khamenei's glass coffin is elevated, chanted "Death to the United States" and "Revenge, revenge" and waved banners with Khamenei's image and his aphorisms, as well as images such as a banquet with clasped hands.
The flags of Iran and other nations bear Arabic inscriptions calling for revenge for Khamenei's death in the Israeli-American attack on February 28.
Funeral and farewell ceremonies will be held in six days in Tehran and the holy cities of Qom and Mashhad in Iran, as well as Najaf and Karbala in Iraq. The government expects approximately 20 million people to attend in Tehran.
