The students have been protesting for several days now, demanding the replacement of absent teachers and more resources for public education.The situation in Marseille is extremely tense due to student protests across France. In a statement released to the press, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) region reported violent incidents outside the Lycée Victor Hugo in Marseille. According to the regional authority, "the principal, the vice-principal, the general secretary, and another school staff member were attacked inside the school and doused with gasoline ."
Also in Marseille, Le Figaro writes, a fire truck was surrounded and then set on fire by rioting students in front of the Lycée Saint-Exupéry.
Students have been protesting for several days, demanding the replacement of absent teachers and more funding for public education. Starting in schools, the protests are now spreading to university campuses. French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will chair an inter-ministerial crisis summit in Paris.
