A group of about 35 Italians is blocked for Covid in the Maldives, in the Nakai resort on the island of Alimathà, in the Vaavu atoll.

Our compatriots, after a heavenly vacation, underwent the necessary checks before returning to Italy, as required by local legislation and according to the rules of the so-called Covid-free tourist corridors, i.e. trips organized and managed by tour operators called to ensure compliance with safety measures.

The virus, however, managed to violate them: 12 of the Italian tourists tested positive in the antigen test. An outcome then confirmed by a molecular swab. For them, and 24 other Italians who had been hosted in the same rooms, the 14-day quarantine provided for the infected and their close contacts by local anti-Covid legislation has started.

The group of Italians was then placed in isolation "in a dedicated area of the resort, without extra costs for all-inclusive services, as required by our protocols", explains Marco Mingoli, CEO of the company that manages the structure. "The first case was recorded with the Christmas departures", he continues, underlining that they are asymptomatic positives, "also because they all had at least two doses of the vaccine, as well as being negative in the tests carried out upon departure from Italy. ".

In the resort, the CEO reports, there is an outpatient clinic authorized by the Maldives Ministry of Health, where an Indian doctor specialized in the management of Covid operates and tests are carried out, which in the event of a positive result must then be confirmed by a laboratory in the capital. Bad.

The Maldives are part of the Covid-free tourist corridors: "Since the reopening of the health corridor at the end of October, we have hosted 2,950 people, with 14 positives, equal to 0.45%", explains Mingoli.
