The US condemns the Russian Oreshnik missile launch in Ukraine at the UN.

The US condemned Moscow's use of a nuclear-capable Oreshnik ballistic missile in Ukraine at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

Last week's use of the medium-range missile "constitutes a further dangerous and inexplicable escalation of this war, just as the United States is working urgently with Kiev, other partners and Moscow to end the conflict through a negotiated solution," US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Tammy Bruce told the Security Council.

The missile, it was explained, did not carry a nuclear warhead.
