The United States will open land borders with Mexico and Canada in early November for travel deemed non-essential. But only to travelers vaccinated against Covid.

This was announced by a senior White House official, adding that the precise date of entry into force of the new device will be announced "very soon" for both land and international flights, subject to the same calendar and for which the vaccination obligation had not been imposed.

The new system for the land crossing of borders will be implemented in "two phases." At first, vaccines will be required only for trips "not considered essential", then the obligation from the beginning of January will be extended to all travelers.

This will leave "plenty of time" to cater for, for example, truck drivers who have compelling business reasons to cross the border, according to the White House.
