"The Church's mission is to preach the Gospel and peace. If anyone wants to criticize me for proclaiming the Gospel, let them do so." Pope Leo XIV said this as he left Castel Gandolfo.
Words that appear to be a response to the new attack directed at the pontiff by Donald Trump , who during an interview with Hugh Hewitt on the Salem News Channel television channel stated: «I think the Pope is putting a lot of Catholics and a lot of people in danger, since he is perfectly fine with Iran having a nuclear weapon».
Despite the controversy, the meeting between the Pope and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio , scheduled for Thursday morning, was ultimately confirmed , also because, Vatican sources point out, the Pontiff's agenda is not being changed in the wake of more or less moody statements.
