The first man to undergo a genetically modified pig kidney transplant died two months after surgery.

Richard "Rick" Slayman, 62, had undergone the pig kidney implant at Massachusetts General Hospital.

According to the hospital itself, "nothing indicates that the cause of death was the implant."

Surgeons had said they believed the organ would last at least two years.
