Brazilian President and re-election candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is gaining ground and closing the gap on his challenger Flavio Bolsonaro on the eve of the runoff election next Sunday, October 25.
Three polls released today confirm the right-wing candidate's lead, with a narrow margin, and a substantial technical tie. According to the Quaest institute, Flavio has garnered 45% of the voting intentions, compared to 44% for the incumbent president. Compared to the previous week, the senator has lost one point, while Lula remains stable at 44%. Blank and invalid votes and voters who do not intend to vote are at 9%. The Meio/Ideia poll gives Bolsonaro 48% of the overall voting intentions, compared to 46% for Lula. Considering only valid votes, which exclude blank and invalid votes, the senator rises to 51.1% and Lula to 48.9%.
Finally, the Palver Institute survey estimates Bolsonaro at 50% and Lula at 48%, compared to 50% and 49% in the previous survey on October 15. The poll also shows strong stability in their choices: 79% of Lula voters and 80% of Bolsonaro voters say nothing would make them change their vote.
