He hadn't washed himself in the mid-1950s and was therefore known as "the dirtiest man in the world". Amou Haji died in Iran at the age of 94. He was a hermit and lived in the village of Dejgah in the southern province of Fars.

Only a few months ago the inhabitants had convinced him to take a shower.

As far as we know he was celibate, ate the meat of animals he found dead on the street and smoked a pipe fed with animal excrement . In 2013 he was the protagonist of a documentary entitled "The Strange Life of Amou Haji".
