October 2023 was the warmest globally, with an average surface air temperature of 15.30 degrees. This was revealed by the latest report from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), the service of the EU program on climate change.

This is "0.85°C above the October 1991-2020 average and 0.40°C above the previous warmest October, 2019".

The month just ended was "1.7°C warmer than the estimate of the average October between 1850 and 1900", adopted as the pre-industrial reference period.

“The average sea surface temperature was 20.79°C, the highest ever recorded for the month of October,” continues the Copernicus report.
