Iran 's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has pardoned "tens of thousands" of prisoners, including many arrested in recent protests that have enflamed the country over the past four months following the killing of Mahsa Amini . This was reported by various international press agencies that quote state TV.

Prisoners who are not accused of spying for foreign agencies , who have not had direct contact with foreign agents , who have not committed murder , or who are not guilty of destroying or arsoning state property will be pardoned . », say the Iranian media.

The judicial authority then added, on its Mizan online site, that the protesters could only be released from prison if they signed a " declaration of remorse and a written commitment not to repeat such an intentional crime". The decision was announced to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution .
