Spain: the Populars win, but the Socialists hold. Vox sovereignists are bad. Governing will be a puzzle
Feijòo's conservatives do not have an absolute majority. Surprise Sanchez remains in the game. Decisive CatalansThe Populars win the elections in Spain, gaining 136 seats in Parliament.
But the majority is a puzzle: Pedro Sanchez's socialist "rivals" in fact win 122 seats , while Vox (extreme right-wing sovereigns) only 33. Instead, there are 31 seats for Sumar's progressives.
The leader of the PP Alberto Feijóo , prime minister in pectore, even in alliance with Vox would therefore not have the absolute majority (176 seats) to form the government.
“Let us govern,” Feijóo claimed anyway, but a new Sanchez government is not excluded. In this sense, the 7 votes of Junts' Catalan party could be decisive.
The ball now passes to King Felipe VI, who will open the consultations.
