The story of Ilaria Salis , a teacher and activist of Sardinian origin , detained in Hungary on charges of having participated a year ago in the attack of two far-right demonstrators during a demonstration in the Hungarian country, continues to be discussed.

A case that is also causing a sensation due to the images of the woman, brought to court in handcuffs and chains and which is fueling political controversy.

After the intervention of the Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani (who spoke of "violation of community rules"), the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa also spoke about the matter:

«On February 2nd I will see Ilaria Salis' father , I couldn't see him before because he was leaving for Hungary», said the number one of Palazzo Madama in the courtroom, adding: « The dignity of prisoners is a problem that must be addressed heart to everyone, in Hungary but also everywhere else in the world. And also Italy where I have news of a not very dissimilar situation, at least for men and not for women with leashes but not handcuffs on their feet."

And from what we learn, in view of the extraordinary EU Council on 1 February, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a telephone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban. On this occasion, the Prime Minister, «in full respect of the independence and autonomy of the Hungarian judiciary, brought Prime Minister Orban's attention to the case of our compatriot Ilaria Salis, following the diplomatic initiatives already launched starting from 22 January of the Vice-President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto".

Meanwhile, all the opposition parties have asked that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni report to the chamber on the measures taken by the Farnesina and the government to protect the detained fellow citizen.

«We asked the Government to mobilize for Ilaria Salis. The woman, on trial yesterday with a leash and padlock on her feet and hands, is detained in a country led by a friend of Prime Minister Meloni. The legal civilization of Europe is at stake. And the dignity of an Italian woman" , wrote Chiara Braga, leader of the Pd group in the Chamber, on

"We have presented, both to the Chamber and the Senate, a request for urgent information for Giorgia Meloni on the Salis case", we read in a note from the M5S . Where it is added « The conditions in which Ilaria was handcuffed in the Hungarian court are undignified and unacceptable.

We want to know if, in her numerous meetings, the Premier has ever spoken to Orban about Ilaria's situation. If the government, through the Farnesina, was aware of what is happening and if Meloni, to protect his relations with Orban, will close his eyes to the shameful treatment that an Italian citizen is suffering."
