A concrete lead in solving the mystery of the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline that occurred in September 2022 off the Danish island of Bornholm .
The German newspapers Die Zeit, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, and Ard revealed this, referring to an investigation by the German federal judiciary according to which the explosive charges that blew up the oil pipeline were placed by a group of Ukrainians, almost all of them expert divers and instructors at a diving school in Kiev.
This is confirmed by the European arrest warrant issued by Germany for the 44-year-old Ukrainian Wolodymyr Z. , a professional diver currently residing in Poland, where he is said to have moved before he could be stopped.
The man has denied all charges, and although the arrest warrant has been forwarded to the Polish authorities and his fate is being discussed - according to Zeit - at the level of talks between the two governments, he is still at large.
Among the suspects being investigated by the German prosecutor's office are two other Ukrainians, including a woman : the couple runs a diving school in Ukraine, where it appears that the 44-year-old worked as an instructor, and according to the authorities the two, whose names are Yevhen and Svitlana U., are said to have attached the explosive charges to the two gas pipelines.
Conspiracy theories about the incident have circulated for years, with unconfirmed claims pointing to the governments of Kiev, Moscow, or Washington as possible instigators. It has also been suggested that Ukrainian or Russian military groups, acting without the knowledge of their respective governments, may be responsible.
What is certain is that the broader question of who ordered the attack remains unresolved : there is in fact no evidence linking the action to any specific country or group.
