Passengers departing from Cagliari were also subjected to border controls reintroduced by Spain after the crisis with Italy linked to Ceuta .

This was announced by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, which released the data from the first day of checks.

Checks were carried out on 199 third-country passengers arriving from Italy , holding tickets for 12 flights.

Specifically, at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, a flight from Rome was checked, carrying 83 passengers, including third-country nationals, screened by four officials. At Barcelona's El Prat de Llobregat Airport, 20 Minutos reports, checks were carried out on two flights from Milan and Rome, carrying 67 passengers screened by eight officers.

These were the airports with the highest number of checks on Saturday, Madrid reports. Other checks were carried out at Seville Airport on two flights from Bologna and Florence, with 11 passengers screened by four officials. In Bilbao, a flight from Rome was checked, with five passengers and three officers. Finally, in Valencia, three flights from Cagliari, Naples, and Bari were checked, with 33 people screened by eight officials. At Alicante Airport, however, despite the arrival of three flights from Italy, no checks were carried out during the day.

Meanwhile, from Italy, Tajani reiterated that the suspension of Schengen will remain in effect until mid-August : "The risk of terrorism and the risk of illegal immigration cannot be underestimated. This is why Italy cannot change its decision to suspend Schengen access to aircraft and ships arriving from Spain until August 15th. Afterwards, when the situation returns to normal, we are ready to restore the previous situation," the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister told Gr Radio Rai.
