Estonian airspace violated by three Russian military jets. The Estonian government reported that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace without authorization and remained there for a total of 12 minutes, with their radios turned off.
The Defense Minister called the incident " unprecedented in its brutality," and the Tallinn government intends to send a note of protest to Russia's top diplomat in Estonia. This is the third Russian violation of NATO airspace in a short period of time , following Russian drone strikes in Poland and Romania.
According to reports, the three Russian jets that invaded Estonian airspace were intercepted by Italian F-35s . Politico.eu reports: "According to sources familiar with the situation, the MiG-31 aircraft, heavy interceptors capable of carrying the Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missile, headed toward the capital Tallinn. The Russian planes hovered over the area for about 12 minutes, and Italian F-35s were dispatched to repel them," the Brussels-based newspaper writes.
The European Union's leaders reacted immediately: "Today's violation of Estonian airspace by Russian military aircraft constitutes an extremely dangerous provocation . This is the third violation of EU airspace in a matter of days, further exacerbating tensions in the region. The EU expresses its full solidarity with Estonia," commented EU High Representative Kaja Kallas. "We will continue," she added, "to support our member states in strengthening their defenses with European resources. Putin is testing the West's resolve. We must not show weakness."
