In Romania, new severe anti-Covid restrictions adopted by the government have been in force since this morning to try to stop the fourth, dramatic wave of infections and deaths that is affecting the Balkan country, which has recorded an average of one death every five minutes in the last month .

Schools will remain closed for at least a week, while the obligation of the Green pass extends to a whole series of new activities not previously foreseen, including entry into shopping centers and all non-food stores. Obligatory mask also outdoors, suspension of all private parties such as weddings and baptisms. Night curfew throughout the country from 10pm to 5am, with freedom of movement in this time slot only for those in possession of a green certificate.

The measures will be valid for at least 30 days, after the government had decided for a long time to relax them.

In the last 24 hours there have been another 9 thousand cases and 299 deaths. There is no longer any room in the cold rooms of hospitals and the Orthodox Church has made the mortuary chapels of the churches available to hospitals, while continuing to hold an ambiguous position towards the vaccination campaign. Also sold out in intensive care and since last week some EU countries, including Poland and Hungary, have moved to accept the most serious cases.

The good news is that, according to the infectious disease specialist Octavian Jurma, in the last weekend the percentage of vaccinated has exceeded those of the infected, as also reported by the head of the vaccination campaign, Valeriu Ghoerghita, in a press conference: "In the last 72 hours - he declared - 360 thousand doses were administered, over 260 thousand people received the first. It is an extremely important numerical growth and we have reached the level of 40% of the immunized (it was only 30% no more than a week ago, ed) . We hope to reach at least 70% soon ”.
