The number of victims of the railway accident following a head-on collision between two trains in Greece , in Larissa, rises to 46 .

The station master , arrested as part of the investigation into the accident, allegedly admitted his human error . The man is accused of manslaughter by negligence. According to sources reported by the Greek media, the station master admitted that he directed the train onto the wrong track and did not realize the mistake until the moment of the accident.

There were 346 people on board the passenger train at the time of impact while the freight train was traveling in the opposite direction. Seven charred bodies were recovered from the restaurant car , crushed in the collision.

In the morning, the representative of the fire brigade, Giannis Artopioos, told public television that the operation to extract people from the wreckage of the train was taking place in "difficult conditions".
