NATO is considering being "more aggressive" in its response to Russian cyber attacks, sabotage, and airspace violations.

Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chairman of the Atlantic Alliance's military committee, said this in an interview with the Financial Times. "We're studying everything," he declared, "on the cyber front; we're reactive in a certain sense. Being more aggressive or proactive rather than reactive is something we're considering."

Dragone also said that a “preemptive strike” could be considered “a defensive action” but warned: “It is further from our normal way of thinking.”

The Kremlin's reaction was immediate: "We consider Giuseppe Cavo Dragone's statement on potential preemptive strikes against Russia to be an extremely irresponsible step , demonstrating the alliance's willingness to continue moving toward escalation," said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. "We view the statement as a deliberate attempt to undermine efforts to find a way out of the Ukrainian crisis," Zakharova added.
