French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte are reportedly planning to present "photographic and scientific evidence" to a US court to prove that the first lady is a woman.

Their lawyer, interviewed by the BBC, says that the French president and Mrs Macron will submit documents in the defamation case brought against right-wing influencer Candace Owens , after the latter claimed that Brigitte was born a man.

Ms. Owens's attorneys responded by filing a motion to dismiss the request.

Speaking on a BBC podcast, the Macrons' US lawyer, Tom Clare, said Mrs Macron found the claims "incredibly upsetting" and that she and her husband had decided to take legal action.
