At least 750,000 euros in cash were seized in the home of the vice president of the Eurochamber Eva Kaili and in the bags her father was carrying when he was stopped by the authorities .

The money has not yet been counted but, according to the Belgian newspaper L'Echo, the first estimates speak of that sum, divided into denominations of 20 and 50 euros : 600 thousand euros were in the suitcase brought by Kaili's father and the rest in the house by the Greek MEP. It was precisely the flagrante delicto that dropped his parliamentary immunity , thus leading to his arrest.

In the meantime, the Greek anti-money laundering authority has frozen the assets of the vice president of the Eurochamber , accused of having favored Qatar together with three others arrested in an investigation by the Brussels public prosecutor's office .

Among the suspects there is also Antonio Panzeri , former MEP of the Democratic Party: the Guardia di Finanza carried out some searches between yesterday evening and today in homes in Milan and in the province attributable to him and his family. Francesco Giorgi , parliamentary assistant of the Socialists and companion of Kaili, and Niccolò Figà-Talamanca , of the NGO No Peace Without Justice, are also in prison. The second NGO in the crosshairs in addition to the one founded by Panzeri, Fight Impunity.

On Wednesday, as announced by the Belgian Public Prosecutor's Office, all four will appear before the Council Chamber.

The Belgian public prosecutor's office is investigating criminal association, corruption and money laundering.
