Mykhailo Podolyak , chief advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky , in a long and controversial conversation with Oksana Kharkovska on Ukraine's Channel 24 - relaunched by the Vatican information site "Il Sismografo" - stated: « No mediation role for the Pope , is pro-Russian, not credible ."
Kiev therefore excludes the possibility of Vatican mediation to resolve the military conflict on Ukrainian territory. Podolyak also mentioned Russian investments in the IOR .
«The Vatican cannot have any mediation function – Podolyak's words – because it would be a function that would deceive Ukraine or justice», adding that Kiev, in this situation, will not receive a «fair evaluation» from the Vatican.
Podolyak also criticized Pope Francis' appeal to young Catholics in Russia. “ There is no point in talking about a mediator called Pope Francis if he takes a pro-Russian position that is completely obvious to everyone ,” said Zelensky's advisor. Then the reference to the investments of the Russian Federation in the Vatican Bank: « We need to look at the investments that Russia is making in the Vatican Bank , we need to analyze this in a little more detail».
